The “Confucius and Tolstoy: Conversations across Time and Space” - Ideological Conversations between Confucius and Tolstoywas successfully held in Qufu on September 26 by the Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government, the Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies, and the International Association of Teachers of Russian.

Nearly 30 Chinese and Russian experts and scholars assembled at the event to have in-depth discussions on “theexchange between Confucianism and Tolstoyism and the mutual learning between Chinese and Russian civilizations.” They were from seven prestigious Chinese universities and research institutes (Peking University, Beijing Normal University, Capital Normal University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Nankai University, Shanghai International Studies University,and Shandong University) and three renowned Russian universities and research institutes (the Russian Academy of Sciences, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and St Petersburg University). They compared Confucianism and Tolstoyism and delved into the similarities between Chinese and Russian culture. The academic discussions and the exchange of thoughts and wisdom strengthen connections between the two peoples and promote cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Russia.

The event was held in Qufu, with a parallel session in St Petersburg. Experts and scholars in Moscow, Beijing, and Shanghai attended the event online.
