The Nishan Forum on Global Youth was held in Qufu, Shandong on the afternoon of September 26. The forum seeks to expand on the important statements made by General Secretary Xi Jinping on strengthening exchange and mutual learning between civilizations and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. Under the theme “the inheritance and innovation of world civilizations and the youth’s engagement”and with a focus on young people, the forum aims to build a global platform for ideological and cultural dialogue and exchange, appreciate the beauty of diverse cultures, and discuss mutual learning between civilizations.

At the forum, some Chinese and foreign experts, scholars, and youth representatives delivered wonderful speeches online and offline. Kasyanova Tamara Leonidovna, Counselor of the Russian Embassy in China and Director of the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, said in her video speech that the hosting of the forum was very important and well-timed and that the Russian Cultural Center had always been dedicated to China-Russian cooperation in culture and humanity and would continue its hard work to give full play to the younger generation’s potential creativity and intelligence in cultural and people-to-people cooperation. In her video speech, Wang Yaping, a super astronaut of the Astronaut Brigade of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, called for young people of the new era to strive to be inheritors and innovators in the permanent development of Chinese civilization and spreaders and driving forces behind the exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations. She said that young people should develop an inclusive and broad mind to contribute their youthfulness, wisdom, and power to the inheritance and innovation of world civilizations. In his video speech, Zhao Kejin, Deputy Dean of the School of Social Sciencesand Deputy Director of the Institute of Global Development at Tsinghua University, called for young people of big countries in the new era to promote the philosophy of equality, mutual learning, dialogue, and inclusiveness for civilization and to become the forces that drive the exchange and mutual learning between civilizations and promote international cultural and people-to-people exchange. In his speech titled “Absorbing the Wisdom from Confucius for the Inheritance and Innovation of World Civilizations,”Wei Yanhua, Director of the Research Management of the Chinese Confucius Research Institute and a researcher at the “Research Base for Exchange and Mutual Learning between Chinese and Foreign Civilizations,”guided young people in the new era to comprehend the thoughts of Confucius and apply them effectively while engaging in the inheritance and innovation of world civilizations.

As an important part of the Nishan Forum on World Civilizations, the youth forum has been running since 2018 and officially renamed as “Nishan Forum on Global Youth”this year. The forum was jointly hosted by the Shandong Provincial Youth League Committee, the Department of Education of Shandong Province, and the Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies, and attracted more than 50 experts, scholars, youth representatives, and journalists from eight countries, including China, Russia, and the United States, to participate in the event at the site.
