Gallery: A Visit to Trace the Custom and Culture Left by Duke of Zhou and to Experience the Ritual and Musical Culture
Date:2022-09-05The ritual and musical culture (li-yue culture, an important part of the ancient Chinese civilization), which originated in Shandong, established the reputation of the Chinese nation as a “nation of propriety”and made a significant and far-reaching impact on the development of Chinese civilization over thousands of years. Duke of Zhou (a founding father of the Western Zhou Dynasty), as the founder of Chinese Ritual and Musical Civilization,not only laid the basis for Chinese ritual and musical traditions, but also shaped the foundation of Chinese humanism.
At the Temple of Duke of Zhou, the students walked through the Lingxing Gate, the Chengde Gate and the Daxiao Gate in turn and entered the Yuansheng Hall, where they looked for the historical footprints of Duke of Zhou at the ruins of the former city of the state of Lu and explored the essence of the ritual and musical culture of the Zhou Dynasty. They also learned about Duke of Zhou’s great ability to govern the state with the law of heaven and earth, and his work in laying the foundations for the state with virtue and proprietyby formulating a system of rituals and music. While exploring the historical development of Chinese ritual and musical culture, the students gained a new insight intothe historical contribution and modern meaning of Duke of Zhou’s “creationof rituals and music”.
