Recently,theShandong event of2024International Museum Day was held at Shandong Museumwith the theme of"Museums Committed to Education and Research", emphasizing the crucial role of cultural institutions in providing a comprehensive educational experience.

It is reported that since last year, Shandong has been continuously promoting the high-quality development of museum industry. As a result of its efforts, Shandong Museum has been included in the new round of national key museum construction list jointly built by the central and local governments. The fifth batch of national museum grading evaluation work inShandonggoes well, with the quality of more than 100 small and medium-sized museums getting enhanced. A number of new museums, including Qingzhou Museum, have been completed and opened to the public. The renovation and expansion of Qingdao Museum, Jinan Museum, and Dezhou Dezhiyun Canal Museum have been solidly promoted, and a number of industrial museums and traditional Chinese medicine museums are developing rapidly. The museum craze continues to heat up, with 812 registered museums in the province receiving over 80 million visitors in 2023 and 3.8 million visitors during the May Day holiday in 2024.

In order to fully leverage the educational role of museums, cultural relics departments and museums at all levels inShandonghave organized and planned a series of activities such as social education, public-benefit appraisal and public-benefit lectures to benefit the people around the theme of this year's International Museum Day, as well as projects to promote cultural and tourism consumption such as cultural and creative product exhibitions and museum study tour.
