Wuliang Family Temple Stone Carvings Exhibited in Shandong Museum during Spring Festival

During the Spring Festival , the craze of "visiting museums to celebrate the Cultural Year" swept across the country. On the second floor of Shandong Provincial Museum, an exhibition called "Wuliang Family Temple - Stone Carving Image Art Exhibition" has attracted the attention of tourists from all over the country. As the documentary "Wuliang Family Temple"was aired on TV right before the Spring Festival and aroused a lot attention, visitors to the exhbition are many. With the Han painted stone statues from Jining,the exhibiton is of greathistorical value, bringinga wonderful festive cultural feast to the audience.

As a unique art form in ancient China,the Han Dynasty stone carvings have profound traditionalartistic characteristics, and are treasures in the cultural heritage of ancient China. Among them, the stone carvings of the Wuliang Family Tombs are the most complete and typical group of stone carving and portrait buildings preserved during the Eastern Han Dynasty. In 1961, it was listedby the State Council as one of the first national-level key cultural relics protection units, together with the Confucius Temple, Mansion and Cemetery in Qufu and others. The Wu Family Tombsare comparatively well preserved, so it is of extremely high historical, scientific, and artistic value. This exhibition features selected stone carvings from the Wu Family Tombs, Xiaotang Mountain Stone Temple, and stone tablets unearthed from Song Mountain in Jiaxiang, as well as research achievements from various dynasties and advanced interactive display methods, bringing a visual feast and artistic enjoyment to the audience.Jiaxiang is hometown of Zengzi, Confucius’s most important disciples and writer of the“Great Learning”.

"I am a tourist from Jining,where these stone carvings are unearthed,and one of my purposefor visiting Jinan is the Shandong Provincial Museum. While visiting the Han Stele Exhibition Hall on the first floor of the museum, I discovered a large number of inscriptions from Jiaxiang County, Jining City. After visiting, I have deeply understood the profound meaning of the phrase 'half of the world's extant Han steles are in Jining'.”Ms. Liu, a citizen from Jining, told reporters, "As a Jining resident, I feltdeeply proud during the visit and told a lot of historicial stories about Jining Han Dynasty steles and stong carvings, and everyone were interested in listening to me.”
